stories those little bodies told

i just got home from my daughters’ ballet recital (i actually had two in this one). and let me tell you about the stories those little bodies told. there were skinny girls and plump ones, graceful ones and awkward ones – some that made music with their bodies and others that just made noise. but everyone of those gangly, gimpy, soaring swans told the story of a little girl becoming a woman. in every lip-bitten twirl and furrowed-brow step, there was excruciating courage and the desire to be beautiful.

their stories made me cry.

  1. Is there anything better than watching transformation? This is why art is so important, we don’t hear about how it happened or when it happened. We see it and experience it. Art in the hands of the great artist or the little girl or the American Idol contestant can’t help but transform.
